Classroom and Special Area Spotlight!
Kindergarten: Ms. Keenan
Room 9 Kinders are reading! Pictured are the students’ favorite reading activity, “Musical Books”. In this activity, they are walking and stopping with music to different decodable books we have studied, much like Musical Chairs. The books are from our Half Pint series, which introduce decodable CVC words by short vowel sounds and our increasing list of high frequency words. The students are enjoying utilizing their growing skills and being able to read independently.
Grade 1: Mrs. Theriault
In first grade, we have been hard at work for some time reading and writing about non-fiction topics! The expert writers in room 12 have been working in writing partnerships and small groups to research, plan, edit and revise their "All About" books and digital stories using a cool new app called Book Creator!
Grade 2: Miss Tercasio
Room 17 has been super busy working through longer words using all that we know about letter sounds and letters that work together. We have been on the hunt for these letter sounds in books that we are reading as well as using these strategies to help us when we write our opinion pieces. We have become trained professionals when it comes to adding and subtracting 2 and 3-digit numbers. We are able to draw a picture to help us solve these problems and then use our math vocabulary to share our math thinking with the class. We are looking forward to continuing these strategies when we add multiple 2-digit numbers.
Technology: Ms. Hulevitch
Students are well into the technology curriculum at this point in the year. Kindergarteners have learned what digital citizenship means and how they can be productive and positive members of the digital world. They have learned how to type their names, how to put spaces between words on a computer, and where the number keys are. We have finally been able to use our new robots! Botley has been a wonderful introduction to coding and we can't wait to explore more!
In first grade students have learned where all the letters on a keyboard are. Then we began using the home row keys to use the correct fingers for each key to build muscle memory for typing. Soon we will be typing up our own books!
In second grade, students have finished their typing unit building that muscle memory from first grade. Students have worked very hard writing, typing, and editing books to print. Soon they will begin their unit on digital citizenship.

Morning Drop-Off
If you are walking your child to the main entrance, you must park in a parking spot and walk your child to the door. Cars cannot be parked along the curb as it impedes those parents who are utilizing the carline to drop off their child(ren). If you are dropping your child off at the crosswalk, please have your child exit the car on the passenger’s side.
These procedures are in place to keep traffic flow moving appropriately and to maintain safety in the parking lot. Thank you in advance for following these very important safety procedures.
Monthly Assemblies
We will only be inviting parents of those classrooms to attend the assembly. The dates will be listed in our newsletter and a reminder will be sent home so that you can plan accordingly and attend the designated assembly for your child’s classroom.
Headphones
All students were provided headphones at the beginning of the year for their iPads. We do not have any headphones to replace broken ones, therefore we are encouraging families to send in a set of headphones that can be used in the classroom. Please label your child's headphones.
Attendance Letters
Per district attendance procedures, attendance letters will be sent out for all absences, excused or unexcused, following this schedule:
5th absence – 1st Letter
9th absence - 2nd Letter
10th absence – 3rd Letter
Additional letters will be sent after every 5th absence. (ex. 15th, 20th, 25th)
Regardless of the content of the letters, if the majority of absences are excused as defined in the student handbook, we will most likely not reach out unless there are a large number of absences.
If the majority of the absences are unexcused as defined in the handbook, an administrator will be reaching out to offer available support to make sure your child comes to school on a regular basis.
