Classroom and Special Area Spotlight!
Kindergarten: Miss Bradway
Room 2 scholars have been enjoying reading and retelling some of our favorite stories from the year. We have also learned that great readers increase their fluency by practicing reading words with continuous blending. Ask us to play Word Race or Bubble Breath! As mathematicians, we have learned that we can sort objects by all different attributes. Ask us to sing "The Sorting Song"! In Social Studies, we have been amazed at how different life was long ago compared to life in the present.
Grade 1: Mrs. Lajoie
In Room 7 we have been using the Second Step program to learn how to identify our own feelings and those of others around us by paying attention to people’s faces and bodies so that we can understand how others are feeling and show kindness, concern, empathy, and compassion. One way we have practiced those skills is we have read the book; “We Are All Wonders” written by R.J. Palacio which is a true story about a boy who does ordinary things, feels ordinary but looks extraordinary and how those around him treat him. It is full of positive messages about respecting differences, being kind and showing empathy and compassion towards others. Room 7 created a display that reflects how we are all wonders in our own ways while celebrating and respecting our individual differences.
Grade 2: Mrs. Wolanin
Students in Room 15 have been learning about plants and animal habitats. After a failed attempt at growing our grass heads (apparently the school paper towels just didn’t cut it!), we have grass finally growing! It has been amazing seeing the students in our classroom fall in love with reading. So many students are bringing their books to lunch and trying to read as we walk down the hall because they just can’t wait to find out what happens in their stories! What a great year of learning together as a Classroom Family in Room 15!
Reading: Mrs. Jennings, Mrs. Paradise, & Mrs. Woods
This week we celebrated Children’s Book Week! The theme for this year is Read Books Spark Change. To celebrate Children’s Book Week, the classes went on a Story Walk. They read the book Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Neighborhood by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell. This book is based on a true story of how amazing people worked together to add a splash of color to their community. They were able to ignite positive change in their neighborhood. We are looking forward to seeing our students spark change in the community!

Important Information from Previous Newsletters
Afternoon Pick Up
If you are picking up your child during afternoon dismissal you must park in a designated parking space. Cars cannot be parked along the curb as it impedes any cars or emergency vehicles needing to enter the parking lot. We appreciate you adhering to our important dismissal safety procedures.
Breakfast and Lunch
FREE for All Students for the REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
We will provide at least a month notice to families letting you know when meals will return to Paid, Reduced, and Free meals.
Morning Drop-Off
If you are walking your child to the main entrance, you must park in a parking spot and walk your child to the door. Cars cannot be parked along the curb as it impedes those parents who are utilizing the carline to drop off their child(ren). If you are dropping your child off at the crosswalk, please have your child exit the car on the passenger’s side.
These procedures are in place to keep traffic flow moving appropriately and to maintain safety in the parking lot. Thank you in advance for following these very important safety procedures.
Monthly Assemblies
We will only be inviting parents of those classrooms to attend the assembly. The dates will be listed in our newsletter and a reminder will be sent home so that you can plan accordingly and attend the designated assembly for your child’s classroom.
Headphones
All students were provided headphones at the beginning of the year for their iPads. We do not have any headphones to replace broken ones, therefore we are encouraging families to send in a set of headphones that can be used in the classroom. Please label your child's headphones.
Attendance Letters
Per district attendance procedures, attendance letters will be sent out for all absences, excused or unexcused, following this schedule:
5th absence – 1st Letter
9th absence - 2nd Letter
10th absence – 3rd Letter
Additional letters will be sent after every 5th absence. (ex. 15th, 20th, 25th)
Regardless of the content of the letters, if the majority of absences are excused as defined in the student handbook, we will most likely not reach out unless there are a large number of absences.
If the majority of the absences are unexcused as defined in the handbook, an administrator will be reaching out to offer available support to make sure your child comes to school on a regular basis.
