Kindergarten: Mrs. Cremona
We LOVE our planet Earth! Students in room 2 spent Earth Day talking about how important it is to take care of our planet, and all of the ways that we can help! We learned the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, and we talked about ways that each of us can help take care of our planet! Lastly, we made these beautiful paintings of our planet.
Grade 1: Mrs. Lajoie
The students in room 7 have been hard at work! In math, we have been using base ten blocks or a drawn model to construct and compare two-digit numbers as well using a 100’s chart to add and subtract two-digit numbers In social studies, we have been learning about maps and the world around us. We have been learning key terms such as compass rose, globe, map key, and scale. We also learned about ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle to take care of the Earth and made an Earth Day promise to do our part. In reading, we have been working collaboratively in small groups to become more fluent readers and writers by applying reading strategies using first-grade phonics and sight word skills to build understanding. In writing we are writing opinion pieces with a good beginning, supportive reasons with examples and a conclusion.
Grade 2: Mrs. Wolanin
Room 15 has been exploring habitats and plants! We have learned how seeds are dispersed and investigated what plants need in order to survive and thrive. We have also been measuring using different units and tools. We are working on comparing lengths and using different strategies to solve problems with length. We are also sharing our opinions through our writing. We can’t believe there are only a few weeks left in school!
Reading: Mrs. Jennings & Mrs. Schmidt
April is National Poetry Month! We have been celebrating poetry throughout this month. On April 18th we celebrated “Poem in Your Pocket Day” by making our own pockets and filling them with poems that we enjoyed reading. Poems are fun to read. While reading poems, we created images in our mind and identified any rhyming words that we could find. If you would like to explore some great poetry books with your child, please follow this link:

2024 KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
This year’s Enfield Public Schools 2024/2025 Kindergarten registration can be completed online on our website at www.enfieldschools.org. The registration link will be opening on April 1, 2024. This link will allow you to upload any required documentation to complete the process. If there are any questions, please contact your home school (Henry Barnard School, Enfield Street School, and Hazardville Memorial School), or they will contact you for any necessary clarifications or missing documentation.
Based on new Connecticut Legislation, students must now be five years old on or before September 1, 2024 to be eligible to attend kindergarten starting on August 29, 2024. Current legislation does allow an option for parents/guardians of students who will turn five between September 2nd and January 1st to request in writing if they would prefer their child to be granted a waiver to enroll in school early based on results of an assessment of the student’s academic and social skills. Parents may visit our website at www.enfieldschools.org to find a link to a form. Once the form has been completed, parents will be contacted by the school to set up an assessment date.
Students currently attending Enfield Head Start, EPS Integrated Pre-Kindergarten, and EPS Pre-K STEAM Academy are registered and do not need to re-register.
If you have any questions regarding the 2024/2025 Kindergarten Registration process, please call the Enfield Board of Education office at (860) 253-6557.

President: Jeanne Davis
Vice President: Melissa Birch
Treasurer: Kristina Boulette
Secretary: Danyel Mucci
Meets virtually each month. Please see meeting dates above.
Medical Information
Please do not send your child in with any over-the-counter or prescribed medications. Medications need to be dropped off to the nurse with the order from the doctor. In addition, please do not send your child to school with cough drops as they cannot self-administer them.
Please make sure any health information, especially in regards to medication, is emailed directly to our school nurse.
Morning Drop-Off
If you are walking your child to the main entrance, you must park in a parking spot and walk your child to the door. Cars cannot be parked along the curb as it impedes those parents who are utilizing the carline to drop off their child(ren). If you are dropping your child off at the crosswalk, please have your child exit the car on the passenger’s side.
These procedures are in place to keep traffic flow moving appropriately and to maintain safety in the parking lot. Thank you in advance for following these very important safety procedures.
Drop-off Issues
After the 8:55 final bell, all parents must sign their child in at the office. We do not have staff outside after the bell, and it is unsafe for the students to come to the entrance by themselves. We will be calling parents who do not adhere to this rule as it is a significant safety concern.
Afternoon Pick-Up
If you are picking up your child during afternoon dismissal you must park in a designated parking space. Cars cannot be parked along the curb as it impedes any cars or emergency vehicles needing to enter the parking lot. We appreciate you adhering to our important dismissal safety procedures.
Placards
Please be aware that once someone comes to the school with a placard, we will release the matching student. Please make sure you know who has the placard to at all times.
Attendance Letters
Per district attendance procedures, attendance letters will be sent out for all absences, excused or unexcused, following this schedule:
5th absence – 1st Letter
9th absence - 2nd Letter
10th absence – 3rd Letter
Additional letters will be sent after every 5th absence. (ex. 15th, 20th, 25th)
Regardless of the content of the letters, if the majority of absences are excused as defined in the student handbook, we will most likely not reach out unless there are a large number of absences.
If the majority of the absences are unexcused as defined in the handbook, an administrator will be reaching out to offer available support to make sure your child comes to school on a regular basis.
