Some Exciting New Things at HMS
- PAWS-itive Office Referrals - Students now have the opportunity to earn a PAWS-itive Office Referral from one of their teachers for demonstrating exemplary school values. If selected, they will receive a positive phone call home from an administrator, a very cool certificate to take home, and have their picture taken for an upcoming bulletin board. This is another way to acknowledge all the positive we see daily at our school and to celebrate our students' accomplishments.
- Grade 2 Student Council: Our second-grade students have nominated a student council (two members per class) to be PAWSome role models for our school community. They will have monthly lunch meetings with our PBIS team and discuss ways to make our school a better place! They will also have special duties to foster their independence and leadership skills. If your child was selected, you will hear from your child's teacher.
Read Across America Week
This week is Read Across America Week. We will be celebrating it through the enjoyment of books. Each day, teachers will read one of the stories and discuss it. On Friday, the entire school will Drop Everything and Read! Stay tuned to hear about what is happening in your child's classroom.
Mystic Visits First Grade
Thank you to PTO for sponsoring the Grade 1 in-school field trip, Mystic Aquarium, Touch and Learn. Students participated in a 45 minute presentation, and had the opportunity to interact with live invertibrates such as lobster, crab and shellfish. Agan, thank you PTO. You're the best!
Build A Mascot
In case of a snow day tomorrow, we will reschedule the Build A Mascot event to Tuesday, March 7th.
Mrs. Boffi's Class Learns How to Make Fortune Tellers
Yesterday Jeihlani taught Room 19 how to make paper fortune tellers. What a great way to learn about writing "How To" books. Let's see if we can find some more expert teachers! Great job Jeihlani.
PAWS Time
PAWSTime
During PAWS Time on Thursday, February 23rd, students listened to the book The Rabbit Listened, written by Cori Doerrfeld and read by HMS Grade 1 teacher Laura Wisnesky, with the help of some Room 8 friends! Students discussed the main character’s feelings and how the rabbit’s actions showed empathy. Students then created their own rabbit finger puppets to bring home.
