Dear ESS Families,
Please take a moment to complete our parent survey below. We have received only about 20 responses, and the feedback from a majority of our families is very important to us. The survey can be completed from your phone and only takes about 5 minutes. Thank you!

Classroom and Special Area Spotlight!
Kindergarten: Ms. Keenan
Room 9 kindergarten enjoyed finishing their math unit on comparing length, weight and sorting objects. Pictured here are the students engaged in a sorting activity. They observed different characteristics of their shoes, classified them into categories, counted and then compared the groups. They had a terrific time while learning these important standards!
Grade 1: Mrs. Theriault
In math room 12 students have been learning about concepts of Place Value; how it helps build fact fluency and a solid understanding of numbers. It’s been so fun to watch students explore, play, name, build and order numbers to 120. Throughout this math unit, students have learned how to add one and two-digit numbers using a hundreds chart and base-ten blocks. As the unit comes to a close, students’ are learning how to write numbers in different forms (i.e. base-ten, number, word & expanded forms).
Grade 2: Miss Tercasio
Room 17 spent the last few weeks learning all about animals that hatch from eggs, with a focus on chickens. We then welcomed 6 baby chicks into our classroom and we watched them grow in front of our eyes. We then used all of our writing skills to write “Thank you” cards to Farmer Becky to thank her for all of her help with our hatch project. We have also become quite good at using an analog clock to tell time. We are using what we know about characters in fiction books to get to know how and why they respond to other characters and problems in the ways that they do. We are so excited to be reading series books to see if our character knowledge carries across books.
STEAM: Mrs. Charette
We are at the most exciting time of the year in STEAM class this month. We have made it to our last activity, which is an engineering problem. Students are working through the engineering design process to come up with a solution to a specific grade-level problem. Kindergarten has used recycled materials to create a device that will move rocks from one space to another. First grade is working to build a communication device that can get the attention of others from a distance. Second graders are using sand and model houses, along with materials such as rocks, pebbles, and straws to build a solution to a possible landslide. What a fun month it has been!
Important Information from Previous Newsletters
The Enfield Public Schools Visual Arts Department is holding the 2nd Annual Summer Arts program this Summer. The program will run at EHS on July 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 17, 19, and 20 from 9:00a-11:00a for all EPS students entering grades 2-12. Use the QR code in the poster to sign-up.
Afternoon Pick Up
If you are picking up your child during afternoon dismissal you must park in a designated parking space. Cars cannot be parked along the curb as it impedes any cars or emergency vehicles needing to enter the parking lot. We appreciate you adhering to our important dismissal safety procedures.
Breakfast and Lunch
FREE for All Students for the REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
We will provide at least a month notice to families letting you know when meals will return to Paid, Reduced, and Free meals.
Morning Drop-Off
If you are walking your child to the main entrance, you must park in a parking spot and walk your child to the door. Cars cannot be parked along the curb as it impedes those parents who are utilizing the carline to drop off their child(ren). If you are dropping your child off at the crosswalk, please have your child exit the car on the passenger’s side.
These procedures are in place to keep traffic flow moving appropriately and to maintain safety in the parking lot. Thank you in advance for following these very important safety procedures.
Monthly Assemblies
We will only be inviting parents of those classrooms to attend the assembly. The dates will be listed in our newsletter and a reminder will be sent home so that you can plan accordingly and attend the designated assembly for your child’s classroom.
Headphones
All students were provided headphones at the beginning of the year for their iPads. We do not have any headphones to replace broken ones, therefore we are encouraging families to send in a set of headphones that can be used in the classroom. Please label your child's headphones.
Attendance Letters
Per district attendance procedures, attendance letters will be sent out for all absences, excused or unexcused, following this schedule:
5th absence – 1st Letter
9th absence - 2nd Letter
10th absence – 3rd Letter
Additional letters will be sent after every 5th absence. (ex. 15th, 20th, 25th)
Regardless of the content of the letters, if the majority of absences are excused as defined in the student handbook, we will most likely not reach out unless there are a large number of absences.
If the majority of the absences are unexcused as defined in the handbook, an administrator will be reaching out to offer available support to make sure your child comes to school on a regular basis.
