ESS Gazette
11/4/2022
Dear ESS Families,
We were so excited to see everyone at last week’s Trunk-or-Treat! Thank you to our amazing PTO for organizing the event. It is already becoming a wonderful tradition for the school.
This week we started conferences, and they will continue the evening of November 7th and the afternoon of November 9th. If you were unable to set up a time, it is never too late to reach out for a conference. Your child’s classroom teacher may still have times available, and conferences using Teams are a possibility. This fall conference is exceedingly important to establish the rest of the year’s work, and we will be as flexible as possible to fit it into your schedule.

Digital Citizenship Night
Classroom and Special Area Spotlight!
First Grade: Ms. Nicol
Hello Families,
In Room 11, we are learning ways to be good citizen in different communities. It may be in our classroom, our school or our home. We wrote ways to be kind and helpful throughout the communities we are a part of. Here are few ideas that you may want to do to be helpful too!
I can be helpful in my community by…
- walking a neighbor’s dog
- cleaning my room
- helping someone get up if they fall.
- picking up trash.
- following directions.
- collecting canned goods for people who need food.
How can you be helpful in your community?
Second Grade: Mrs. Trifone
We have been busy “bees” in Room 16! We are beginning to explore nonfiction books and learning how to become experts on different topics through reading and writing. We have been practicing solving word problems in math, and we are getting ready for 2-digit addition and subtraction! We also are becoming quite the scientists as we study properties of matter; we had a blast doing the “sick pumpkin” experiment with some other second grade classes (ask your child about it!)! 😊
Computers: Ms. Hulevitch
My name is Ms. Hulevitch and I am one of the computer technology teachers at ESS! Students come to this special once every week. In technology we work on computer skills like mouse control, where to find letters on a keyboard, typing, and how to navigate a browser. We also discuss important topics about being responsible and kind digital citizens. Students will be working on coding a program in their iPads as well as a robot! I am so excited to be working with your children again this year!
Veteran's Day Assembly
Correction to the original form that was sent home. The correct day and time for the assembly is Friday, November 18th at 9:15. Please note that due to space constraints we are limiting guests to our Veterans and one guest.

Breakfast and Lunch
**TEMPORARILY** FREE for All Students for month of November
We will provide at least a month notice to families letting you know when meals will return to Paid, Reduced, and Free meals.
Attendance Letters
Per district attendance procedures, attendance letters will be sent out for all absences, excused or unexcused, following this schedule:
5th absence – 1st Letter
9th absence - 2nd Letter
10th absence – 3rd Letter
Additional letters will be sent after every 5th absence. (ex. 15th, 20th, 25th)
Regardless of the content of the letters, if the majority of absences are excused as defined in the student handbook, we will most likely not reach out unless there are a large number of absences.
If the majority of the absences are unexcused as defined in the handbook, an administrator will be reaching out to offer available support to make sure your child comes to school on a regular basis.
iPads will be starting to come home regularly. A few reminders:
- Please make sure your child’s iPad is fully charged before school
- Please do not allow a password to be set
- Make sure that the iPad is insured (There is a $400 replacement cost for uninsured iPads)
- Although iPads were sent home over the summer, the insurance from last year does not carry over and needs to be paid again for the 22-23 school year
