Classroom and Special Area Spotlight!
Kindergarten: Mrs. Kusta
How is it already the month of May? Your kindergarteners have been thriving! They are such proud readers and writers! We are learning how to write a letter to someone to help showcase our opinion during Writer's Workshop. In Math, we have just finished up our measurement unit and are jumping right into our last unit all about shapes! Students in Room 4 have been learning about the past and the present and have become knowledgeable about how things have changed over time; homes, vehicles, clothing, toys. Our last science unit is a cool one—we will be exploring facts about ecosystems to help discuss plants and animals and what they need! I hope all families can enjoy the nice weather on the horizon!
Grade 1: Ms. Nicol
Students in Room 11 studied vowel teams and vowel combinations. We continue to persevere with our reading by decoding longer more complex words. Having knowledge of the vowel combinations helps us continue to grow as readers! For our phonics culminating celebration, we constructed “Vowel Town” to highlight all we learned. This photo is an example created by Room 11.
Grade 2: Mrs. Trifone
Happy spring! Room 16 has been learning all about different habitats, and how plants and animals adapt to survive where they live. We made habitat booklets filled with different information about each one we studied. We loved reading Maybe Something Beautiful for Children’s Book Week, and enjoyed creating “A Pocketful of Something Beautiful” filled with things that fill our hearts with joy!
SEL Support: Mrs. Tait, Mrs. Parker, & Miss Martin
As we are wrapping up the school year, there are many exciting activities for our students here at ESS. The students have filled the school-wide bucket AGAIN and they will be celebrating with stations of outdoor activities to honor all their hard work. We encourage parents to support their child over the summer by promoting safe, kind, and responsible behaviors every day. Classrooms have completed all the units of the Second Step SEL program. They finished with a unit about problem solving and conflict resolution. In additional SEL lessons, we have been focusing on empathy and friendship with a great video series featuring the class dojo monsters.

Important Information from Previous Newsletters
Afternoon Pick Up
If you are picking up your child during afternoon dismissal you must park in a designated parking space. Cars cannot be parked along the curb as it impedes any cars or emergency vehicles needing to enter the parking lot. We appreciate you adhering to our important dismissal safety procedures.
Breakfast and Lunch
FREE for All Students for the REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
We will provide at least a month notice to families letting you know when meals will return to Paid, Reduced, and Free meals.
Morning Drop-Off
If you are walking your child to the main entrance, you must park in a parking spot and walk your child to the door. Cars cannot be parked along the curb as it impedes those parents who are utilizing the carline to drop off their child(ren). If you are dropping your child off at the crosswalk, please have your child exit the car on the passenger’s side.
These procedures are in place to keep traffic flow moving appropriately and to maintain safety in the parking lot. Thank you in advance for following these very important safety procedures.
Monthly Assemblies
We will only be inviting parents of those classrooms to attend the assembly. The dates will be listed in our newsletter and a reminder will be sent home so that you can plan accordingly and attend the designated assembly for your child’s classroom.
Headphones
All students were provided headphones at the beginning of the year for their iPads. We do not have any headphones to replace broken ones, therefore we are encouraging families to send in a set of headphones that can be used in the classroom. Please label your child's headphones.
Attendance Letters
Per district attendance procedures, attendance letters will be sent out for all absences, excused or unexcused, following this schedule:
5th absence – 1st Letter
9th absence - 2nd Letter
10th absence – 3rd Letter
Additional letters will be sent after every 5th absence. (ex. 15th, 20th, 25th)
Regardless of the content of the letters, if the majority of absences are excused as defined in the student handbook, we will most likely not reach out unless there are a large number of absences.
If the majority of the absences are unexcused as defined in the handbook, an administrator will be reaching out to offer available support to make sure your child comes to school on a regular basis.
