Greetings All,
It truly feeling like fall these days, with all the fog gracing our valley. We know it's a busy season so we'll keep it short and sweet. We are super excited to provide our students with time in the gardens after Thanksgiving through Lobos Activos, the new lunch/recess program. BUT we still need volunteers so please sign up (min. of 1xmonth) and contact us for details
cesarchavezeep@gmail.com . If you love being outdoors with kids, exploring the natural world, this is for you!

We are extremely grateful for Louise Conrad, who will help lead EEP as co-chair. Louise has two sons at CCE and her background is in environmental science and fisheries biology.

In January we plan to launch a first pilot model of future field trips to Stebbins Canyon and Quail Ridge -  stay tuned. Also, join us on our monthly Wed. outings to Putah Creek. Next meet is scheduled for December 8th - see details below.

We wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving and thanks for reading!

Meet our new EEP Co-Chair Louise Conrad

My name is Louise Conrad and I am excited to join Julia Seebach and Julia Pollex as part of the EEP leadership team. I am so impressed with all the work EEP has done at CCE, particularly with keeping the gardens vibrant and beautiful during the COVID lockdown. The dedication and excitement of the other team members of EEP is contagious! My children, Rowan and Emmett, are in 2nd and 4th grade, and thriving at CCE. My education and training is in environmental sciences and fisheries biology, and I am generally passionate about science and practicing critical thinking as ways of fostering environmental awareness. I work for the state of California for a science program dedicated to providing science for natural resource decision-making in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, which is the state's largest watershed and the heart of California's water supply! I hope to bring some of my passion for environmental science to EEP and CCE. I look forward to seeing the students in the gardens!

Volunteers Need in the Gardens
Volunteer in the gardens for a minimum of 1 x per month. You'll be supported by the EEP leadership team and be part of a growing garden community of friends, who believe in the power of playing in the dirt for a healthy body, mind and spirit!
sign up and tell your friends!

EEP Wednesday Nature Meet-Ups 2:30 - 4:30pm
December 8th

Bring the family and meet us at Putah Creek by the fire ring, which is surround by those large cement block benches. We will then walk along the creek heading West and find a place to settle along the water for playtime. More details about this natural UC Davis preserve can be found here.

How to get there: Take Hopkins Road south, past the UC Davis airport, until you see the creek. Parking is on the north side of the creek. You can email us with questions: cesarchavezeep@gmail.com

Honoring National Native American Heritage Month

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, we recommend this beautifully written book, inviting us to awaken our consciousness to the natural world. " Drawing on her life as an indigenous scientist, and as a woman, Kimmerer shows how other living beings--asters and goldenrod, strawberries and squash, salamanders, algae, and sweetgrass--offer us gifts and lessons, even if we've forgotten how to hear their voices."

COP26 news brought to you by CCE Parents Juliette & Nick
We sure miss this sweet family during their year abroad in Wales, England, where they are spending time with grandparents and exploring the other side of the world. While the kids are in school, Juliette and Nick continue to dedicate their time and energy  advocating for social and environmental justice. You can now follow their story on Juliette's blog at CoolDavis!

EEP Advocacy

New MPR and its Impact on our Green Spaces
EEP's mission is to expand our schoolyard green spaces and rewild our  campus! We have a unique opportunity to develop the softscapes aound the MPR and create natural habitats to support 21st Century Learning outside the classroom walls. Please email us cesarchavezeep@gmail.com if you are interested in engaging on this topic and volunteering for EEP. We plan to create an advisory committee to work with Senora Dunn and district leaders on this evolution.
