WE DEEPLY APPRECIATE FAMILY SUPPORT FOR OUR NEW MUSICIANS!!

Please remember that learning a musical instrument will not happen instantly, or in just 30 minutes per week.  You will need to practice during the week and come to lessons for the entire school year - The rewards will be amazing!!

Instrument Insurance information:  While we are not officially endorsing this company, we can tell you we've had good experience with them over the years and have found the cost to be reasonable.  If you would like to insure your district loaner, or your personal instrument, please try Anderson Insurance:

We can't wait to make music with you!

You should have this book for your instrument if you are playing flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, trombone, or drums (Percussion):

If you are beginning on violin, viola, cello, or bass, you will be provided your method book for the first part of the year.  After our concert in January, you will need to get this book, (specific to your instrument):

You should have this book for your instrument, if you are continuing (second year or more) on violin, viola, cello, or bass:

Info for All City Band and All City Orchestra

~ Available for Continuing 6th Grade Students ~

We're super excited about this year's All City groups!

Please contact Mrs. Sanchez (nsanchez@djusd.net) if you are interested in All City BAND, or Ms. Cooley (lcooley@djusd.net) if you are interested in All City ORCHESTRA  (see below for information on our new All City Choir!)

All City groups are a great opportunity for our continuing students to play in a larger ensemble, learn some more challenging, fun music, and have an extra performance with other music students from all over the district.

We meet for about an hour, once per week, each Wednesday from 2:00-3:00.

All City Band meets at Patwin, in the MPR

All City Orchestra meets at the Brunelle Hall on the DHS Campus

All City Choir meets at DHS in PA-8

It's always a dedicated, fun group of musicians!

In order to be eligible for All City, students must:

·   Be currently enrolled in DJUSD music lessons

·   Regularly attend those lessons

·       Not miss more than 3 All City rehearsals (unexcused)

Join us!  We need all instruments and lots of great musicians!

FIND YOUR MUSIC TEACHER

WHAT ARE THE BASICS OF THE PROGRAM?

All 2nd and 3rd graders will participate in an Intro To Music experience each week, providing an equitable base of music education to all our DJUSD students.  Concepts of pitch, rhythm, sound production, instrument families, and much more, will be taught in a fun, interactive way.  Research shows that a music education helps with all learning functions - music makes you smarter!  These lessons are what prepare our students for starting to play an instrument in 5th grade.

Your 4th, 5th or 6th grade child will have several options, based on grade level, experience, and interest (see list above).  Once you choose your instrument, use the Form (provided below) to enroll in music classes!

STRING instruments taught at the elementary level include Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass.

BEGINNING BAND instruments include Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, and Snare Drum.  Students with at least one year of clarinet lessons my also choose alto saxophone as a Continuing band student.

Whether you are new or continuing, you need to submit the enrollment form so we can plan the lessons.

Each instrument group will have one assigned lesson time per week, for 30 minutes each.  The students will leave their regular classroom to go to the music teacher's room, and must remember this time without reminders from their classroom teacher.

Please remember that learning a musical instrument will not happen instantly, or in just our 30 minutes per week.  You will need to practice during the week, and make the commitment to come to lessons with your instrument for the entire school year!  The rewards will be amazing!!

2023-24 BAND CONCERT DATES (all concerts are at DHS Brunelle Hall unless otherwise noted):

** Note:  Students should do their best to attend the January side-by-side concert that includes the Junior High School they plan to attend, but may attend another one if they're not available on that date, as the selections will be the same.

2023-24 STRING CONCERT DATES

Additional Growth Opportunity:  CONTINUERS are invited to participate in All City Orchestra and All City Band (sign-ups closed in October).  This is a terrific chance for your developing musician to make more music with other motivated students from across the district.  This group will meet on Wednesday afternoons (after early dismissal) and will include special music and additional performances!  (Please note, your student must be currently enrolled in their school's music lessons in order to take advantage of the All City opportunities.)
