Bienvenido!
Greetings Dear CCE Community and Welcome Back!

Such a busy time of year as we transition into this fall season. In May we celebrated our 6th graders, including Amber Husten and Scott Clements' youngest child Ethan. Amber served as EEP's co-chair for the past year and was part of the CCE parent community for a decade! Amber also co-chaired three CCE auctions, helping to raise critical funds for SIPAT and all the amazing programs they support (including EEP of course!).

As Amber and I transition out of our EEP chair roles, we are so excited to welcome Julia Pollex, who will carry on the vision as the new EEP chair. The next couple of years will provide EEP the opportunity to transform our softscapes around the new MPR, creating place-based, nature focused learning for our students. Julia Pollex, the proud mama of 1st grader Galen Wolf
, has degrees in environmental horticulture and urban forestry from UC Davis. We are thrilled to have her take on this important leadership role. As our CCE campus is transformed with a beautiful new Multi Purpose Room (MPR), EEP will play a critical role in evolving the goals and mission of EEP with softscapes surrounding the new infrastructure.  Please support Julia and EEP during this critical point in time. Preparing our kids for the future demands the deep understanding of the inter-connectivity of all living systems. Let's step beyond the classroom walls and rewild our campus for learning, play and exploration!

In Community,
Julia Seebach and Amber Husten - former EEP leaders

Meet our new EEP Chair Julia Pollex!

I’m Julia Pollex and my son is in 1st grade. I am looking forward to becoming the chair of the EEP committee and being more involved with the CCE family. My husband and I are Bay Area transplants. We moved to Davis 10 years ago so I could pursue a degree in environmental horticulture and urban forestry at UC Davis. I continued my education in the horticulture and agronomy graduate group. My favorite topic in horticulture is plant identification, followed by plant propagation, water conservation and soil science. I really, really, really, REALLY like plants and I love sharing my knowledge with anyone that will listen.  I have over 20 years of experience in the world of horticulture. I’ve taught courses at community colleges and a number of courses as a Teaching Assistant and Associate Instructor at UC Davis. While in graduate school my research involved assessing salt tolerances of grape, lettuce and flowering annuals for the future use of recycled water.  Aside from my plant obsession I love being with my family, chilling with my cats and reading fiction novels.

Looking Back - Spring 2021 in the Gardens
Ecologistas En Accion

When in-person school opened up in hybrid format in Spring 2021, EEP rapidly organized an official Garden Club to offer an opportunity for students to spend time in the garden and learn from each other while caring for the garden. The activities took place twice a week after school, with two sets of students. Kids came home with hand-decorated pots made from food-grad tin cans that were already filled with vegetable starts, and stories of the weeding, mulching, planting, and playing they did. The experience was a welcome and refreshing change from computer screens and a positive and safe social experience for our children. They very much look forward to working and playing in the gardens again. - Louise Conrad and Paul Lynch

New MPR and its Impact on our Green Spaces
EEP's mission is to expand our schoolyard green spaces and rewild our  campus! We have a unique opportunity to develop the softscapes aound the MPR and create natural habitats to support 21st Century Learning outside the classroom walls. Please email us cesarchavezeep@gmail.com if you are interested in engaging on this topic and volunteering for EEP. We plan to create an advisory committee to work with Senora Dunn and district leaders on this evolution.
