HMS Husky News
A New Chapter For Mrs. Hunter
This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, but I will be leaving HMS at the end of the school year. My family and I are permanently relocating to our home in southeastern Connecticut. HMS has been my home for the past 6 years and I am going to miss it tremendously. This school has the best staff, students and families! In the meantime, I plan to enjoy every day for the remainder of the year, and celebrate all that we have accomplished together. With that being said, I would like to welcome Ms Fitzsimons to HMS. I know she is going to be a wonderful addition to our community.
Grade 2 Students Visit Eli Whitney
On Tuesday, May 30th our second graders will be taking their tour of Eli Whitney from 10:00-11:00. Students will get a chance to tour the building and meet staff. Eli Whitney is looking forward to seeing them next week!
Our Butterfly Garden
We are very excited here at HMS about our new Butterfly Garden! Thanks to the efforts of teachers, students, and parents we have a beautiful garden that is a source of enjoyment and learning for all members of our community. We have a puddler dish for butterflies to drink out of, a hummingbird feeder, and several beautiful perennials that will attract the butterflies. During PAWS time, the whole school listened to the story, Maybe Something Beautiful by Isabel Campoy and each classroom contributed to the garden by decorating a wooden butterfly or flower to be used to brighten up the wooden border of the raised garden bed. We appreciate the help of our AMAZING parent volunteers Laura Pratt, Brian Peterson, and Melanie Grimsley and the generous donations of materials from Bill’s Landscaping and New England Landscaping. A big shout out also goes out to Mrs. Wisnesky, Mrs. Frederico and Mrs. Nuzzolo.
PAWS Time
PAWS Time
During PAWS Time on Thursday, May 18th, students listened to the book Maybe Something Beautiful, written by Isabel Campoy and read by HMS teacher Michele Wilcox! To support this month’s theme of Friendship, classes discussed how friends within a community worked together to make positive changes. Then, students created a class project to bring extra beauty to our new HMS Butterfly Garden, as well as their own butterfly to take home.
ABC Countdown to Summer
We are enjoying our ABC Count Down to Summer. Yesterday was Lego Day. Each student got their own Lego kit to build. What a fun day!
Family Survey
This year Enfield Public Schools is working with CREC Resource Group to review our current programming. The findings will assist with the development of a Strategic Equity Plan. One component of the program review is a survey. This survey will provide information to assist with ensuring educational equity, cultural responsiveness, and support for our District Equity Statement. Family members and guardians are asked to complete and submit the survey within two weeks of receiving it. If you do not have home Internet access, you are welcome to complete the survey at your child’s school. Students in Grades 3-12 will complete a survey at school. Thank you!
