USG's Mental Health Trainings

Thank you for your interest in a mental health training sponsored by the University System of Georgia’s Mental Health Initiative! USG is offering two mental health trainings to all students, faculty, and staff within USG: QPR Suicide Prevention Training and MHFA Training.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training

QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer – the three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade and refer someone to help. Take the first step in saving lives by signing up for this innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training utilized around the world.

The 1.5-hour online session includes didactic instruction, role-play exercises and time for questions. Training is live and hosted in Microsoft Teams. Participants will receive an email with the meeting link on the day of the session and training materials after course completion. Maximum of 35 participants per training.

Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training

MHFA includes two hours of self-paced asynchronous training and a six-hour instructor-led live training. Instructor-led training is live and hosted in Zoom. Participants will receive access to their MHFA account and online pre-work at least one week before the training, with a due date assigned for all asynchronous training. Maximum of 30 participants per training.

MHFA is a skills-based training course that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorder. People trained in MHFA learn to identify the risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, strategies to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or is in crisis, and how to reach out and offer resources of where to turn for help. Topics covered include depression, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis, and substance use disorder.

Dates for each training will be visible on the next page, and you will have an opportunity to select dates of your choice before submitting the final registration. Please do not register for more than one date of the same training (i.e. choose the one date that you will attend).

We are unable to accept same day registrations. QPR registration closes at 11:59pm the day before the training, or sooner if the course is at capacity. MHFA training closes at least 3 days prior to training, and may close sooner based on capacity.

By continuing with your registration you agree:

1) you will attend the training on the date you select

2) for MHFA, you will complete all required asynchronous training modules by the assigned due date.

You also accept there are a limited number of training seats available and that the cost associated with QPR and MHFA training is paid for on your behalf by the University System of Georgia.

That's all, folks!
