Derek Skaggs is in his fifth year working with the Lions golf programs heading into 2023. He retired from MSSU in July, 2018 after serving 21-years as Dean of Admissions.
Skaggs is an avid golfer, and his primary responsibility with MSSU golf is recruiting. He came to MSSU from Texas Christian University (TCU) where he served as Assistant Dean of Admissions for 10 years.
Prior to TCU, he was Assistant to the Academic Vice President at Southern Arkansas University where he also played basketball during college. He is has a bachelor’s and Masters from of the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB).
Coach Skaggs is married to Tracie and they have three children: Lanie (MSSU graduate in nursing), Nathan (MSSU graduate in Environmental Health and Safety) and Katie who is completing her degree in Communications at MSSU.
