Spring Valley Park

Spring Valley Park in Fall

At nearly 186 acres, Spring Valley Park is one of Kalamazoo’s largest city parks and one of the best places to admire wildlife and the natural beauty of the area. Walkers and runners will love the more than three miles of paved trails, and there are three playgrounds for children to enjoy. With a baseball diamond, soccer field, disc golf course, and tennis courts, Spring Valley Park often hosts youth sports. There are also several geocaches located in the park for visitors to discover.

There are a variety of areas for a picnic too, including a 30-person shelter with electricity that is available to rent. It's conveniently located near restrooms and drinking fountains. You can rent this picnic area for $155 for four hours

Reserve Park Space

The land that makes up Spring Valley Park was first acquired in 1954 when the City Commission approved $50,000 for its purchase. Additional land was purchased through 1964, which included the former site of the Ashton Mill. Construction of the dam started in 1955 and the soccer fields were added in 1959. In 1970, 30 acres of the park were sold to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to develop affordable housing as part of the Operation Breakthrough program.
