Consortium Symposium at Columbia

May 3-4, 2024

The Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning organizes two major events each year: a fall workshop for language faculty from participating institutions and a national symposium in the spring.

Columbia University will be hosting the annual symposium in May 2024 and has chosen the theme of “Language and Climate: Making Connections for a Sustainable Future"

The symposium will explore the nexus between climate and language and examine the ideological assumptions that shape the relationship between the natural world and the language used to speak about it. The symposium also aspires to serve as a disruptive starting point to challenge the language teaching community to think beyond current approaches to language studies and consider how climate issues can be made relevant to the language classroom, to language curricula, and to language programs.

Consortium members are asked to register by April 5, 2024. After this date, participants from outside the Consortium will be welcomed and a seat at the event cannot be guaranteed.
