Do you know a visionary who has played a leading role in shaping the Indianapolis of today, someone who has brought together the public and private sectors in the name of civic improvement? Consider nominating him or her for the Charles L. Whistler Award today.

Nominations for 2023 Whistler Awards are now open. Nominations will be accepted until 5:00pm, September 8th, 2023. The selection committee deliberations will take place in mid-September.

We invite you to nominate a current leader who exemplifies this vital Indianapolis tradition. Award nominations are open to all in the community (see eligibility details to the right). A subcommittee of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee selects each recipient, and the Mayor of Indianapolis personally presents the award.

Desirable candidates reflect the passion and skill that Charles L. Whistler displayed for making the public-private partnership work for the overall betterment of the community. Award recipients are recognized at a breakfast ceremony in the fourth quarter each year and by the subsequent addition of their names to a monument located in the Charles L. Whistler Memorial Plaza at the Indianapolis City Market.

Eligibility

Demonstrates visionary and enthusiastic leadership in serving the community
Provides outstanding service in bringing together the public and private sectors for civic improvement, while serving in volunteer roles that far exceed what is simply expected of the individual through his or her employment
Currently appointed government employees and elected officials are not eligible
Past elected officials are only eligible for the award when their leadership goes beyond that of public service
