FROM SCOTT STEVENS, CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES January 27, 2021
Dear Country Day Families, Alumni, Faculty and Staff,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to provide an update regarding our Head of School search. First, a nine-member Search Committee comprised of current and former trustees has agreed to lead the search process and ultimately recommend the next Head of School to the Board of Trustees. I have asked Shanon Jones and Bill Zimmern to co-chair the Committee. Additional guidance will be provided by a ten-member Faculty and Staff Advisory Sub-Committee, with participants drawn from all areas of the school. This group will support this important process by assessing candidates and advising the Search Committee. We have structured the process to facilitate a broad-based, inclusive, and thoughtful selection while balancing candidate confidentiality to encourage the widest range of interest.
The Search Committee has selected the highly experienced and well-respected executive search firm of Spencer Stuart to support us in running a comprehensive process and attracting talented and diverse candidates to the school. Mary Gorman and Chuck Jordan will serve as Spencer Stuart's lead consultants.
As we commence the search, the Committee, along with consultants at Spencer Stuart, will be in contact with a broad spectrum of the Country Day community, including parents, students, alumni, faculty and staff, and the Board. These conversations will provide an opportunity for you to share your thoughts regarding the direction and leadership of the school and the qualities the ideal candidate should possess. The insights shared in these conversations will help us create and refine a position specification, which we will use to promote the opportunity to prospective candidates and guide our work in the months ahead.
These conversations will take place over a three-week period in February. In the coming days, you will receive an additional e-mail that outlines the specific dates, times, and details for discussions with the Committee and Spencer Stuart. You can also find updates and information on our Head of School Search website. We will also solicit your feedback through an online survey that will be sent to all members of the community. Lastly, we invite your questions and feedback throughout the search process. You can reach the Search Committee and Spencer Stuart at CCDSHead@spencerstuart.com.
As I stated in December, Mark's inspired leadership and unwavering commitment to the Country Day community have made a transformational impact on our school. The strong standing of Charlotte Country Day School ensures a continuation of our tradition of leadership. We are confident that we are in a strong position to attract the best successor to Mark and secure a successful future for Country Day.
Thank you in advance for your support and participation. Scott Stevens
