If you have read The Hardest Route, you may remember meeting both Melissa and Aiden. This story overlaps parts of the previous one and it was really cool now to realise what was happening between them was playing out in the background in front of my eyes without me realising so.

Aiden and Melissa met at the same time Griffin and Brooke did. They shared a fun night together, promised to stay in touch and kind of did off and on over about seven years. After the first time Aiden met Mel, his life became completely complicated and he didn’t want to burden her with his issues so was sparse in his contact with her.

‘See something you like?’ I asked, stopping in front of my date for the evening, whether he knew it or not. He leaned in close and whispered in my ear, ‘I’ve never seen anything so breathtaking in my life.’

Aiden is a star quarterback and completely devoted to his career. However, there is only one thing he loves more, his children. Aiden is an amazing dad to his boys. Unfortunately, his ex manages to manipulate Aiden via his access to his children and I truly felt for him every time she hurt him. I loved all the moments between him and the boys. They have such an awesome connection. Unfortunately his ex and mother of his children continually creates stress in his life. She seems to have the worst timing when it comes to Aiden and Mel trying to catch up with each other. Aiden always seems to let Mel down and it frustrates him.

‘Mel had always been the woman who I’d let get away.’

Aiden felt an instant connection to Mel when they first met and despite the time that has passed, the connection and attraction has never wavered. Mel wishes Aiden would be honest about what is going on in the background and let her in. Something always gets in the way and he makes up excuses, not because he doesn’t want to see Mel, life keeps getting in the way. Being let down gets old and she doesn’t want to keep putting herself through the emotions she goes through each time he cancels on her.

‘I didn’t want to start this with him again. I didn’t want to start anything with him again. Mianly because I so desperately wanted something with him.’

However, when everything comes crumbling down around Aiden and he truly needs someone, Mel is the first person at his door. He is reluctant to accept help, he is used to standing on his own two feet and it feels weird to have Mel there, willing to step up and just be there. For the first time in his life he feels like someone truly has his back. After feeling let down by the people in his life who should have loved and supported him for so many years, it feels amazing to have that with Mel.

‘You might not see it this way. But you’re my man - albeit stubborn, pigheaded, and overbearing, but mine nonetheless. This is my fight too.’

When things come to a head with everything going on in his personal life Aiden is about to learn that the hardest hits are not on the football field but the ones that impact his heart.

I loved getting lost in this romantic, funny and at times heartbreaking story.

‘Things change, and life has a way of telling you what you want instead of the other way around.’

well I'll be damned. The Hardest Hit wasn't at all what I expected.
I have a confession to make, I don't like reading romance novels with age-gaps where the heroine is older than the hero but A.S. Teague may have converted me. I never thought I would see the day where I would change my mind about it but here I am.

This is the second book from the series, my second book by this author and I have loved both.

THH-1

Mel and Aiden's story is one I will revisit again. Their story is one of missed opportunities, it's filled with banters where can feel the attraction and angst throughout the pages of the book, it's the emotional turmoil of slow-burn romance that is heavenly *kisses fingers

Mel and Aiden's story in The Hardest Hit completely captivated me. I loved these two strong independent characters and I loved loved loved their romance and the lives they created.

A round of applause for A.S. Teague 👏🏼

Melanie Holstein could have been a real doormat, but she was a strong self-assured woman with a heart of gold. I liked her maturity and approach. It took me considerably longer to warm up to Aiden Shaw, but his bits of vulnerability convinced me he was worth giving another try.

I really liked the premise for this story - age gap, sports, missed connection. My luck with books lately hasn’t been the greatest and this one started out no differently. The excuses and lack of communication was just irritating and unnecessary. But some of the story is good with a touch of sweet and steamy. It didn’t completely work for me but that doesn’t mean it won’t work for other readers.

I loved book 1 but I just KNOW Aiden and his immaturity is going to piss me off royally.... Somebody help me with safety please? Was he a manwhore? I got a giant whiff of manwhoring and snide disrespectful comments that'd bring out my inner shemon! Somebody help me out please?

To say that Mel and Aiden were always just one missed connection away would be an understatement. The two met in Vegas, but the saying ‘What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ was something that Aiden just couldn’t stick with. However, life got in the way for both Aiden and Mel, until Aiden is dealt a devastating blow. Mel is the first person there to help him work through this, and she is determined to help him. Will luck finally be on their side, or will another hit derail them for good?

I am so glad that we got Aiden’s story next. While reading Griff and Brooke’s story in ‘The Hardest Route’ I couldn’t help but fall a little in love with Aiden Shaw, and I needed him and Mel to get it together and get together. I wasn’t ready for all that would entail though. From page one until the very end, I was captivated, I had to know what was going to happen next for Aiden and Mel, and boy did A.S. Teague deliver on that! This story was amazingly written, and watching their romance unfold and how they overcome the obstacles that are thrown in their paths was beautiful to read. This book will have you laughing out loud, quietly crying, and everything in between. Well done, and please keep this series coming!

Hero doesn’t care about heroine. Constantly lying and putting her last. Stood her up more than once. He was a flake. Don’t know why heroine thought she needed him in her life. No real connection either for obvious reasons

Aiden and Mel met one night in Vegas. One connection, few hours spent laughing and getting to know each other pretty much sealed their fate together without them saying it out loud. But, they live in opposite directions, and both have busy lives so keeping in touch becomes hard. Aiden is a famous football player, pressures of football and being a wonderful single father. But, he never ever forgets Mel. He's always kept her in the forefront of his mind. She is the one that got away. Their timing is never ever right. EVER.

Mel has always felt this big connection with Aiden, but he doesn't want to burden her with his issues. Over the years, he's always kept a line "us" communication open between them hoping one day, they get it right. Its easier for her to let him fade out of her life even though its so hard to forget about Aiden Shaw. Just when she is finally giving up on the possibilities, a life changing event happens to him and she runs to him. She will do anything in her power to not let him be alone. She is not giving up on him. She gives her all when he needs it the most and he tries to push her away. I love that when he finally realized she was not going anywhere, he sucked it up and really truly saw how much she cared for him. But they do get it right and its all kinda right in their world, kids and all. Their journey was sometimes hard to read, but they eventually get there and it was perfect.

I really enjoyed their story, slow burn, so much love though. I loved seeing the Griffin, Brooke and Allie from Hardest Route. Loved seeing the rest of the guys in the group. I can't wait to read the next book.

4.5 “Tell me a secret” Stars

I’m so in my feels. I had no idea I’d be feeling so much. I obviously didn’t know what to expect, but oh my gosh this story definitely evoked all kinds of emotions.

Mel and Aiden met in Vegas, but the saying ‘What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas’ isn’t something Aiden could sit with. It was evident from the moment Mel and Aiden’s eyes caught from across the room the attraction was undeniable. And maybe that one night was all that was meant to be, because the timing was never on their side. They had a couple of missed opportunities, and ultimately life just got in the way for both of them. Years later it seems that maybe, just maybe time is finally on their side, but instead there’s added obstacles for them to overcome.

Mel and Aiden’s story is difficult to read at times, exciting and fun at others and devastatingly heartbreaking at one point. I was drawn to Mel and Aiden’s growing relationship. They don’t make it easy and there were countless times I needed them to get it together. Though, I was hopeful of where they were going and how they’d get there.

The Hardest Hit captivated me from the very first page. I was on the edge of my seat anticipating how everything would unfold. This book had me laughing, shedding a few tears and everything in between. I was rooting so hard for Aiden and Mel and for their HEA. A heartwarmingly beautiful story with amazing characters that pulled at my heartstrings. Definitely recommend!

The Hardest Hit did hit me hard! The story felt real to me, the emotion and challenges were well written by author A.S Teague. The notion that love conquers all isn't always true, life is more complicated than that. The Hardest Hit explores how loving someone can require hard work

This story is about a guy and a girl who are never able to be in the right place at the right time. It is a love story which spans almost a decade, giving it a feel of reality, rather than the fiction of an insta-love.

This novel centres around NFL Quarterback Aiden Shaw. It begins when he is fresh out of college, signed to the big league. He meets Mel on a night out in Vegas. They have instant chemistry and a connection. I enjoyed the development of this story and of the characters. I liked how the story took us on a journey over the years, rather than skipping over large chunks of time. This allowed me to get a strong connection to this pair and their struggles. When they come together both emotionally and physically it is worth the wait.

I did feel the pace of the story was slow at times, particularly towards the end. I also would have liked more insights into the NFL. I hope to read more from this author, perhaps the supporting characters from The Hardest Hit may feature in future novels.

The Hardest Hit evokes all kinds of emotions while reading this excellent story from A.S. Teague. The author has given us a story of love found, that keeps getting lost in the complexities of life. Aiden and Mel’s story is difficult to read at times, fun and exciting with anticipation at others and downright heartbreaking at one point.

I think the thing that drew me into this book the most was the expectation of the growing relationship between Aiden and Mel. I was so charmed by their story that I was hopeful of where they were going and how they were going to get there.

Ms. Teague’s writing is the best it’s ever been. Witty dialogue with humor or honesty where need, gave way to a story line that was well timed and page turning. Her characters are outstanding. 5 Stars #2OCCMS

Ahhhh Mel and Aiden we’re seriously AWESOME. I absolutely adored Mel-she was hurt so many times over and over yet she still picked herself back up each and every time and became even fiercer and independent than before. Aiden was definitely tortured-he wanted what was never right at the time for him, and you could really feel it in your bones how hurt he was from the whole situation. I wanted to truly shake him at times, but everything flowed together so great, and this author perfected their love story so well.
This author is definitely someone I one click whenever she has a new release. We saw some of Mel & Aiden in a previous book-so I was already intrigued-and their story surpassed everything I could have guessed. Loved it!

The angst is so REAL in this story but I was eating up every moment of this story! I absolutely loved Mel and Aiden since their first interaction in Vegas. This story had everything, single dad✔️ football✔️ angst✔️ chemistry ✔️ and drama✔️ This story was a huge page turner and I never wanted to put it down. I couldn’t wait for things to work out in Mel and Aiden’s favor, but all the turn of events definitely kept me reading more! Their connection and chemistry was off the charts even after years later and problems that were holding them apart, couldn’t stop them from wanting each other. This story was a great slow burn and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoys books like this one. All main and important sides characters were great and the storyline was just 😍

A direct arrow to the heart! Mel and Aiden -- whew! It took a loooooooong time before they finally got it right . . . and at times I really wanted to give up on both of them. But there was always that little voice saying these two were a match made in heaven. Older woman, younger man -- but the age wasn't a problem for them or me. I loved the addition of kiddos and Sandy, the maid!

A sports-romance with a great cast of characters and a little drama and angst to keep readers turning the pages.

A story about missed connection and finding each other after many years apart.

It took a bit of time for me to get into the story and the feel for the characters, but eventually I did start warming up to them. It was a sweet, slowburn romance book. I do have a special love for sports romance books and this did not disappoint.

They meet in Vegas, he’s a young quarterback superstar, she’s an older women, secure and established in her career. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas right? I was really intrigued by this book and was totally looking forward to the fireworks. After their amazing connection, the next 7, 8, 9 years this couple spend time either failing to meet for arranged dates or seeing each other socially with other friends and always missing their chance to be together because of other life commitments. I really struggled with this couple, although they were never really a couple and found myself becoming more and more irritated by their childish excuses and failures to even attempt one proper date with apparently the love of their life? By year 3 or 4 of their failed attempts and nothing happening i felt that neither the great Aiden Shaw nor Melanie Holstien would ever or even should be a couple. Yet i continued to read, because the book was well written, i was curious how this non drama would play out. So yes the book was well written, but i never found any passion or nor could i invest in these two characters as a couple. I felt the time they spent, growing their OWN lives whilst at the same time keeping each other in a virtual hook, just felt overly played out, i mean 7 or 8 years down the line and not even one solid attempt to properly date? Ermm no it just couldn’t work for me, that isn’t a couple in love that will beat the odds to be together, thats two people who always put their own needs first, but this is just my own personal feelings and i’m sure many many will love this book

“I’ve been on my knees for you since the first time I saw you”

4 stars!

This is a great read. A sweet, dramatic, heartfelt and slow-burning love story between an NFL superstar and single father, and the one who got away.

Although it’s not flagged as being part of a series, please note that this book is a follow on from The Hardest Route, featuring previously introduced characters and focussing on the same group of friends with quite a bit of crossover.

Eight years ago, Aiden and Mel met in Las Vegas. They shared an instant attraction, and a night together spent talking and getting to know each other formed a strong connection that left them both wanting more and feeling like they were on the precipice of something momentous. But life had other ideas, and circumstances (and distance) kept them apart. They kept in touch over the years, trying to reconnect, but it never happened.

“You were the fucking girl that got away, you know that? You were the one who just slipped right through my stupid fingers.”

Now their best friends (the couple from The Hardest Route) have hooked up and are living their blissful ever after. Aiden hasn’t given up on Mel, but after years of being jerked around, she’s tired of it and pulls the plug once and for all. But when the unthinkable happens, Mel drops everything to be by Aiden’s side when he needs her. He may not acknowledge that he needs her, and it may be the worst possible time for him, but Mel is determined to be there for him, and not to let another chance pass them by.

“What an evil stroke of irony that the one woman I’d always wanted finally came available when I was no longer capable of doing a fucking thing for her.”

This is a bit of an angsty journey. Aiden and Mel have a lot of history, and there have been a lot of stupid decisions and miscommunications over the years. They’re pretty much starting at rock bottom trying to find their way forward, and there is some push and pull between them, but thankfully there’s always at least one of them pushing for more, and they slowly start to find their way forward.

“It’s never been enough when it came to you. Not once. But I think I’ve proven my patience up until this point. I can wait a little while longer while you finally come to terms with the fact that you and I are meant to be together.”

It’s a really gorgeous love story, sweet, sexy and heartfelt. I love that they don’t hold back on what they are feeling, and once they get past their crap, it’s blessedly functional, and just in time, too, because life is about to hit them with major twists and turns, and it’s going to take all of the strength they have to make it through.

“Whatever this is, destiny, fate, some cosmic pull, or just a fuck lot of intense chemistry, we’re connected. We just have to decide what to do with it. And I choose you. I choose us.”

I really enjoyed this book. I loved Aiden and Mel as characters, I loved how no-nonsense they were with each other, and I thought their love story was really beautifully written. I also really loved Aiden’s boys – they are fantastically fun, and the relationship they had with their Dad was so, so beautiful to see!

There is time spent with Griff and Brooke from the previous book, and we get to spend a bit of time with Aiden and Griff’s group of friends, especially Quinn, who I suspect will be the next to have his story told.

I loved this one, and I’m looking forward to more.

4 stars.

It was by pure luck that I stumbled upon A.S. Teague and this book. Thanks to an offer to read and review The Hardest Hit, I've now added a new author to my favorites list. After binging both books in this series over the holiday weekend, I'm eager to read all of Teague's books.

Why? Because she just gets it. Mel and Aiden are fantastic characters. Teague brought them to life in The Hardest Route (which is a companion novel, not necessary to read first-but reading both of these books in order really enhances the reading experience). We meet them both in the first chapter and they're prominent characters that never overshadow Brooke and Griff, but you know that you want more. And, you totally get more.

Teague's characters are ones that the reader can truly relate to. Mel is an independent woman who has made a career for herself as a physical therapist. 8 years older than Aiden, she's happily settled in her life, despite not having a significant other. When she meets new college graduate Aiden on her 30th birthday she never expects a decade-long “will they or won’t they” as they navigate desire for each other amidst Aiden’s single dad status or her commitment to herself to be the best she can be. I loved Mel’s loyalty to Brooke and Allie, how hard she worked at her career as a physical therapist, and how she’s able to see what’s important through forest of illness and tragedy that wreak havoc on her friends.

Aiden, on the surface seemed immature. Certainly, throughout The Hardest Route (book one) I questioned how he could be the guy for Mel. But, The Hardest Hit gives us another side of Aiden and one that you want to hug and pinch all at the same time. I loved his dedication to his children and how he always gave their mother the benefit of the doubt. I loved how he treated the people in his life despite the awful examples his parents and brother were while he was growing up. And, I loved how he always knew that Mel was it for him, even though he tripped so many times trying to convince of her that.

The Hardest Hit delivers just that: a wallop of emotions that leave the reader gasping for air and reaching for their hearts as they break and weave themselves back together. I know I’ll read everything else by A.S. Teague because she’s exactly what I love about an author: she brings the emotions, gives readers characters that they can relate to and miss once the last page is turned, and her stories feel timely and recognizable as one that any of us could be the star of.

I received a copy of this book from the author and Social Butterfly PR in exchange for honest feedback.

(3.5 stars) The Hardest Hit by A S Teague was a sports romance that took me a couple of chapters to get into but once I did I had to know how it ended. Melanie and Aiden meet one night in Vegas and the sparks are instant. Their 8 year age gap and the fact that they live across the country from each other isn’t the thing that keeps them apart though. With a series of ill-timed moments throughout their years connected they just can’t seem to get it together but once they do I couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what would happen.

I enjoyed the story and most about it and the characters. It was a little hard to connect to the two of them in the beginning with the time hop but at the same time it was done well and let you see their connection and how their feelings developed for each other as time passed. I really felt for Aiden and while I understood his reasoning behind some of the decisions he made it still drove me nuts. I enjoyed their banter and vulnerability and the moments with Aiden’s boys a lot. It really helped me fall more for the both of them. Even though it took me a moment to get attached to these two once i did I was all in and was happy with the ending. I would definitely read another A S Teague read no doubt.

Do we ever know when our next surprise is going to spring up? Of course not, because surprises are as much a part of life as breathing, eating and being alive. No matter what life hits us with, we are bound and destined to address and resolve each issue in one way or another. Emotional, physical, mental, does not matter the hits will keep on coming. But what is The Hardest Hit? AS Teague, you have spun a web of interest and challenge that left me speechless. I could not turn the pages fast enough, yet with each turn, I always wondered, what next, what next, and again what next.

Time waits for no man...or woman. Talk about an understatement, this story shows just how fast time can fly. But it also shows the power of love and that there is strength in knowing who your soulmate is. Aiden and Mel are powers in their own rights and their own fields of business, but together, they are nothing less than explosive. How they were able to endure and grow with each misstep left me speechless. Anyone that knows me knows, speechless is not a word used in conjunction with my name.

AS Teague brings suspense and angst to the page with clarity and emotion. She also does the same with passion and revelation. No way was I putting this book down. Sleep because a waste of time. I was hooked till the very last page and the very last sentence.

What an amazing story of perseverance, strength, patience, emotions, and love. There are not enough stars to give to this story but I place it high on my list of best of the year.

4 1/2 out of 5 stars

Mel and Aiden won me over early in the book. Even though I could feel Mel's frustration with Aiden, I still felt their connection and their desire to be together was strong enough I never doubted how the book would end. Their journey was rough, but their love was stronger. I felt the emotions of both characters so strongly. I wanted to be their best friend and confidante. I wanted to strangle them and I wanted to hug them. I really bought into this book and enjoyed it from page one.

I spent 16 hours on the road this weekend and I hated every minute of it because I get horrible car sickness when I read. I didn't want to put it aside, but once I picked it back up, I was ready to continue.

This was the first book by this author that I've read, but it won't be the last because she has such a beautiful way of telling a story that I am captivated and in love with the characters and the story!

This is a really fantastic sports romance that has a single dad that loves his boys so much and always puts them first even ahead of his own needs.
Aiden Shaw is the quarterback for Green Bay he has everything he needs he is on top of his game, he has his boys, and he has the confidence to make everything to go his way.
What he doesn't have is the one women he always wanted Melanie Holstein, Mel has been just out of reach for 7 years. They met one night in Vegas and have texted or met up but something always happens. After Aiden takes a hit she finally realizes he Needs her not only as a PT but as someone who won't give up on him. Mel never wanted kids, she makes her own money and really doesn't need to the punching bag that Aiden uses her for. She is relentless and is a team player a Team Shaw player.
Mel deserves a standing ovation for her heart, grid and overall strong will that she showed. She was an amazing character who stood her ground and never let team Shaw down. This was a one of akind relationship that these two had to fight for. So worth the read.

Oh my gosh. This book was everything I had hoped and more. I had been dying to find out what happened to Aiden and Mel since I finished The Hardest Route, and it did not disappoint.
Aiden cracks me up, but a couple of times he had me screaming inside with frustration.
Mel might be one of my favorite characters of all time. She is the perfect amount of sweet, sassy, and taking no crap from anyone.
I really want to know if Allie got her Christmas wish... 😂🤣
There were several parts in this story that I didn’t see coming, which I appreciate. I like a few twists and turns with my HEAs. And there are a few side characters that I would love to hear more about (maybe Quinn will get a story? hint hint).
Overall, this was a fantastic read. I highly recommend it!

The Hardest Hit by A.S. Teague is a full length, standalone novel. A heart- warming slow burn. The story spans years and Melanie and Aiden bothntake theri sweet time. The time seems never right for them and some things are simply don't meant to be, it seems.
But when tragedy strikes all bets are off and both come to their senses.
The Hardest Hit is a book that I read in one sitting. I had to know what happens to the characters and I was on the edge of my seat, I was so rooting for A and M.
Thr author wrote a beautifully thought out, beautifully written and beautifully told story. I give 4,5 stars.
