Smith Sinclair guards the gates to the darkest corners of Charleston, and I need access for a story. Despite my best efforts, he stonewalls me at every turn, treating me like a plaything with his outrageous demands.

He's unapologetic and arrogant, and refuses to play fair. Yet I find his scathing honesty and brazen confidence irresistible. Staying away from him isn't an option. Not for me.

But Sinclair isn't the only danger lurking in the shadows. And as he distracts me with his games, each lead I chase drags me deeper into a sinister plot.

In the end, I'm bound to make a choice that might cost one of us everything.

While Bound can be read as a standalone, it is the third book in The Devil's Due series and is best enjoyed after reading Depraved and Delivered. Bound has no cliffhanger.

A long winding road with some kinky and unexpected twists.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the first time I have read this author so I was pleased that this book was almost a standalone. I say almost because there are several places in this book where I felt I was missing something and figured this has to be part of a series because of references made to other stories.
The premise of this book is strong and I especially loved the character of Smith. He was everything we look for an alpha male and I loved his rough and tough gruff exterior and his soft heart. I especially loved his amazing performance inside and outside of the bedroom. Yum!
Kate, she was one I didn’t really enjoy as much. However I did have a softness for her because of her past and her jerk family. She was conflicted, yet weak and a push over too. As the story moved along I found myself liking her character a bit more but Smith was my main reason for liking this one.
What was interesting about the story was the complete twist and the strange development of Father Sinclair. While I knew he was definitely weird, the reality was a bit odd with a lot of kink factor showing up.
This book was a long winding road and I felt the early portion could be shortened a bit. Much of the emphasis for Kate was looking for evidence of political corruption yet in the end it really wasn’t important. And frankly, I kinda got lost along the way.
This book is definitely entertaining and fiery hot in certain parts. But it also was long and drawn out in other parts.
Overall, it’s an engaging, unique, and story with some heated kink in parts, but I do recommend reading one of the others first just to improve the flow.
Let me tell you a little story about meeting Eva Charles at a book signing this past October. I **may** have stalked her a bit from across the room because I was supposed to be assisting another author at the event.
You see, I needed to find the perfect opportunity to try to get Eva to spill some details about Smith and what to expect in Bound. But I got not a damn thing other than “you’ll just have to wait until February!” And wait I did.
And holy hell was Smith and all his alpha manly gloriousness worth it!
I loved the dynamic that developed between Smith and Kate. How he tried to keep his distance but just couldn’t. How his heart and brain conflicted between loyalty and love, and how love won out in the end.
I knew Bound would leave me breathless, but I wasn’t expecting the perfectly timed plot twists and turns coupled with the bite of religious overtones and obligations.
Bound is heady, dark, dirty, sexy, twisted, brilliance! And I loved every minute! ~ Missy, 5 stars
Bound turned out to be a totally different story than I expected. That’s neither a good thing nor bad, it just is. What I got I enjoyed tremendously. At the beginning of the story I got a little apprehensive on the writing style because it was thorough. It wasn’t slow, per say, but the development of the story left zero to chance LOL the author laid out this story without a single gap from page one. The slow burn of the story mixed very well with the relationship development between our leads. I know there are readers that are put off when stories tend to be too detailed, but you’ll have to trust me when I tell you that it is exactly as this story needed to be told.
What I found to be the best reason for my overall enjoyment of this story was the progression from mild to explosive that the story took. It wasn’t a story that was dark and twisty but it progressed kinda like a song does to full crescendo, you feel the song vibrate thru you as it pushes to its highest point of intensity and this story followed the same beats. It made for a very captivating read that I did not want to put down.
My first read by Eva Charles and it blew my new-to-me expectations out of the water. I’ve already started the previous two books in this series because my interest in the characters was piqued by Bound and I’m super excited to read all about Decadent Delilah coming later this year!
This story... I need A fan... It was HOT, demanding, devouring and pulling all the right strings for me from the very first page. Be warned this story is a LONG one as well.
Smith is JD Wilder's best friend and I was so curious about what will be put in his book. I got what I wanted and even more. Nothing can prepare you for what you will discover here from vanilla to hot kinky emotions.
Kate is a reporter that is looking for some information about the long-dead case. She's asking and that's dangerous. Smith needs to make her leave it all alone.
Those two collide with undeniable sparks between them and sparks will fly there, nothing is off-limits when it comes to them - in BDSM kind of way.
Those two come from very different places, but they feel like they are pulling toward each other. And this is something that I truly loved in that!
Can those two find somehow their own happiness with each other or on their own? Even when the shadows won't leave them alone?
TW: BDSM, abduction, psychic illness and quite a few more.
Bound by Eva Charles is the third book in The Devil's Due series. This is Smith Sinclair and Kate McKenna's story.
Smith is JD Wilder's best friend and head of security for The Wilders.
 Kate is a beautiful and fiery reporter going after a sizzling story...or at least what she was lead to believe was but that's definitely not the case. When Kate arrives in town, Smith is asked by the Wilders to get Kate to leave...even though there is crazy hot chemistry between him and Kate. He does it. The fact he finds her super sexy and hot is something else. He can't act on his feelings.
Kate knows there's a story so she decides to return and pursue the story knowing that this may put her back in Smith's line of sight... she doesn't care. She's ready to stand up and make everyone take notes- see Kate, she's here and not going to be shoved down and pushed away like a mistake. There are reasons for why she's pursuing the story and people better get with the program or get left behind. Smith is someone she didn't count on. Their chemistry is intense, forbidden, steamy and touching. There is so much more to this story- I don't want to give too much away but just know, Kate is just perfect. She's been through so much yet kept getting back up and continues going on, striving. Smith is the perfect man for her- alpha male whose tough with that center of tenderness. Be prepared, this is a long story; it's a slow burn but needed for there read. Such a beautiful and wonderful story.
This is the third book in the Devil’s Due series and the first book I have read by the author. It can be read as a standalone but I am going back to read the other two books. Kate is a woman of conviction who is after a story that will earn her the Nobel Prize that she feels her mother should have won. However, things are not looking well for her as she is off to uncover a seemingly underground society which is being guarded by Smith Sinclair. Smith is a former military man with special skills. He is who he is in the sense that what you see is what you get. He is doing what he can to keep Kate off of the story but she is wreaking havoc on his sense of being. Kate is also not immune to the way Smith’s southern charm is affecting her. The bottom line is Kate is willing to do anything to get the story she is after which leads her to a very precarious position. After everything that Smith and Kate have been through, will he shut her out when it all hits the fan? This is one slow build, high intensity storyline with betrayal, drama, loyalty, danger and steam. I look forward to reading more from this author. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.
New to me author, Eva Charles has managed to capture my attention with this suspenseful and intriguing story. Bound is the third book in The Devil's Due series, but can be read as a standalone.
An ex-military man and a strong-headed and sassy reporter, make such a great pair. I loved the dynamic of their relationship. Smith has proven that an alpha male can be strong and deadly but sweet at the same time. And Kate is the perfect fierce heroine, who doesn't back down from a challenge when it comes to finding the answers she needs to uncover corruption. There's a constant battle of personalities between them, but when Kate finds herself in a dangerous situation, Smith makes sure she doesn't get harmed.
The banter, the chemistry, the push and pull, were perfectly presented throughout the book. And damn, there were some intense steamy scenes. Told in dual pov, with fairly paced action and a plot that kept me glued to the pages, this book was a rollercoaster of emotions, and I definitely recommend it!
Honestly when I read the blurb for this book it didn’t exactly appeal to me but I had read The Devil’s Duet by Eva Charles and absolutely loved JD and Gabby so I wanted to read about Smith. The blurb about the priest was really throwing me off. I’m glad I went ahead and read this book because it was not what I expected...in the best way! Smith is a hot, hot, HOT alpha male. Kate is a reporter who ends up in Charleston chasing a story and ends up getting “stuck” with Smith to help her get the scoop. What follows is an enthralling, sexy story with some new characters and some old favorites like JD and Gabby! There are definitely some different things in this story that may not appeal to some people but that’s what I love about the Eva Charles’ books that I’ve read. She’s not hesitant to cover all kinds of stories and plots and does them so well! I am definitely looking forward to reading about Gray and Delilah!
The blurb had me really intrigued. The three characters involved were so different, the story was sure to be very interesting.
Kate is a journalist looking for her big story and Smith, the guy who has the job of keeping Kate away from her target. And a priest who gives spiritual guidance.
This is a story of trust and deceit. There’s twists and turns, erotica and strictly taboo action. Who to trust is not always clear.
Bound is a suspenseful read, and a great story. I highly recommend this book!
Wow!! This book is so freaking good. I couldn’t put it down! I had been looking forward to Smith’s book, but it was so much more than I expected. Smith is just so dreamy. I love an ex-military alpha... especially one who is tough but loyal and sweet too. And don’t even get me started on how I love a strong heroine. Kate is a badass in her own right and I loved it. The chemistry between them is perfection and sooooo hot!! Gah! I definitely recommend giving this one a read!
Team Smith
It had been awhile since I'd read about the Wilder family but I didn't feel like I needed a refresher. This story was comprehensive on its own and just as intriguing. I liked the relationships that developed between the main characters and the lesser players.
Ms. Charles ' writing style grabs you from the first paragraph until the end of the book. She continually leaves you wanting more...more characters, more story..more
Kate and Smith’s story is very emotional and intense. Kate is one strong woman and I fell for her deeply and just wanted some true happiness in her life. Smith was the perfect alpha that Kate brought out feelings that he didn’t want to believe. Amazing book with huge twists but in the end will love win it all? 5/5 star
I feel like I have waited forever for Kate and Smith's story! Now that it is here I can tell you I was not disappointed at all!
I was introduced to Smith during JD and Gabby's duet. It was his intense and protective nature that drew me to him and piqued my interest. From the moment he stood up to JD in regards to Gabby's safety, I knew I needed his story and poor Eva Charles would not sleep until I had it.
Their story line is tumultuous at best, lending to some of the most emotional moments in reading in a very long while. The entire back and forth between Kate and Smith, their episodes of almost falling into each other, yet not quite getting there, really pulled on my emotions.
Kate makes so many great friendships in this story and she has such a warm personality that you can't help yourself but wish she was really your friend...or that the other characters were real too.
Long time fans of Eva Charles will love BOUND...and if you are new to Eva Charles, I suggest starting with Depraved. Bound is definitely a stand alone but to catch up on the history of the Wilders and to really enjoy Smith in all his glory, you should start at the beginning.
I absolutely LOVED Smith and I likely will for the rest of time. The build up of his release was some of the most fun I have had in a long time. Eva has a fantastic fan base and we are book sisters at heart. Together we have dreamed and contemplated Bound, reflected on JD and Gabby, poked at Eva for just one more teaser, and have staked our claim on her various leading men.
This review wouldn't be complete if I didn't say it. #smithismine Lisa...I am talking to you.
Get this book! You won't be disappointed!
A gripping read from start to finish, this will have you on the edge of your seat with the action, drama and suspense..... you will need a fan and a cold shower for the sizzling hot sexy scenes...... it's also an emotional roller coaster that may well make you stop and think about things.
Smith Sinclair is JD Wilder's Head of Security, he is also his best friend and they know each other inside out. Nothing is more important to JD than his personal life and his family, that's why Smith does what he does. When a nosy reporter, Kate McKenna, who JD has had a run in with before, turns up and starts asking questions about his club, he just wants her gone and out of the way, and Smith is the man for the job.
Except Smith likes the fiery red head, she seems to have gotten under his skin like no one else, but trust is a different matter.
Kate is on a story, she needs answers and is willing to do anything to get them. Her attraction to Smith is off the charts, and is willing to do anything for answers from him. They end up spending time together and getting to know one another, until some unusual things start happening, a massive betrayal takes place and families are put in danger. Kate has always turned to religion to help her through things, having been brought up a Catholic and spent lots of time with a Priest who would take care of her in lieu of her family, she finds herself looking for a new church where her reporting skills may be useful. Father Creighton seems friendly and is very happy Kate is at his church and helping out, but soon Kate finds herself in a whole world of hurt she was not expecting.
Kate is a complicated character, her whole life she has been degraded and made to feel worthless, yet she continues to pick herself up and plod on. I really felt for her and everything she had been through and really wanted her relationship with Smith to be good for her. She needed to be loved for who she was, cared for a protected, Smith was that person. She had some psychological issues when growing up that reached into her adult life with Smith also. She is very innocent and naive in her outlook and experience, but wanted more from herself and let herself go with Smith.
Smith is an awesome character, strong, loyal, protective, brutally honest and down to earth. His military training serve him well as he trails Kate keeping an eye on her, popping up in the most unexpected places. But the attraction is undeniable, he finds it difficult to control himself with her, but has to take his time and not frighten her away, he is very much into kink, but knows Kate is very much vanilla, so must push and test her boundaries carefully.
The suspense part and the twist in the story will have you on the edge of your seat. Be warned it is quite dark and brutal, with scenes of violence and abduction. I loved it, an emotional and intense read, highly recommended.
Smith stole my heart
Eva Charles certainly knows how to write about alpha males and their equally sexy and sassy women. First she gave us JD Wilder and Gabby, now she has presented us with Smith Sinclair and Mary Katherine "Kate" McKenna. OMG!!!! Smith ... that man stole my heart. WOW!!!
Smith and Kate's story was such a terrific read. It has a touch of darkness, definite suspense, occasionally emotional and some jaw-dropping steamy scenes ... Smith certainly knows how to increase a woman's heart rate. Smith Sinclair is an alpha male. He likes to be in control of things at all times. He's a dirty talker, rough, has an affinity for kink, but below his gruff exterior lies a man who is incredibly sweet and has the tenderest of hearts ... even though he doesn't like to admit it. As well as being JD Wilder's best friend, he is also in charge of the Wilder family's security, which is how he crosses paths for the second time with Kate.
Kate is a journalist looking for that Pulitzer Prize winning story. A story that will get her into a lot of trouble. I really loved Kate, she was determined, sassy, sweet and ready to stand up for what she believed in ... even if it put her life in danger. This red-headed beauty affects Smith like no other woman ever has. It has him doing things he normally wouldn't even dream of ... like defying his best friend and boss. Continually at loggerheads over what Kate is chasing, Smith and Kate's relationship turns into something neither of them were expecting.
Smith teaches Kate things she has only ever read about. He allows a side of herself to flourish that she didn't realise was there. This leads her to become a much stronger woman. It also leads Smith to discovering sides to himself that he too didn't know existed. As their relationship evolves outside forces interfere causing Smith to believe that Kate has betrayed him in the worse way possible. His reaction inadvertently puts Kate's life in danger. Even with all this happening, Smith cannot get the sassy redhead out of his mind.
There are numerous twists and turns woven throughout this story ... some totally unexpected. There are some really dark moments and some wonderful lighthearted moments. Eva Charles has really balanced both sides beautifully throughout. Not everything is at it seems. Did Kate really betray Smith and the Wilder family? Has Smith made the biggest mistake of his life? Who really is Father Jesse?
An absolutely addictive read. Eva Charles has most definitely outdone herself with BOUND.
A book not to be missed.
Kate is looking for a Pulitzer prize winning story. Smith is supposed to scare her out of town and away from the Wilder’s even if they are not the main topic of her research. But, an instant attraction makes it much too hard for Smith to send Kate on her way . . . and, the more he starts to learn about her, the closer he wants to keep her . . . and it’s not only to keep tabs on her and her research.
But, there is something truly sinister afoot in Charleston. And, Kate finds herself smack dab in the middle of an evil she never could have imagined with Smith being her only chance at salvation.
Kate was such an interesting mix of worldly and inexperienced. Smith knows he shouldn’t but he can’t help himself the more he gets to know her. And her backstory . . .ohhh I could punch her father and brother! Still, she tries to see the good in everyone and takes the blame for everything and everyone on herself
Smith is so torn between his loyalty to JD and his feelings for Kate. He really sucks at relationships and trusting others, but I loved that he shares that and tries to be honest with Kate in order to make things work. His character was truly complex and he’s so alpha and fiercely protective of everyone he cares for. I loved watching him fall for Kate and struggle with having to deal with his emotions.
There is so much treachery and betrayal in this book it’s unreal. And, while I may have had some misgivings about some of the character’s motivations, I was completely unprepared and shocked at how things played out! Damn you Eva Charles, you are a mastermind!!!! The drama is so crazy and seems so insane, but you just know this crazy stuff like this can really happen and it felt scary and totally believable.
What I found really unique with this story is just how much story was left after the “big drama.” It was a masterfully woven plot and kept me engaged and wanting more for all 426 pages! I love that Eva shows that everything isn’t always a quick HEA after the drama and let me tell you, I have all the feels for Smith’s parents! They may not be in most of the book, but their impact is incredible and I have so much love for them.
Holy crap, good grief, OMG, and just about every exclamation out there!!!! Bound is definitely one of my top reads of the year! 5 stars.
This series has quickly grown to be a favorite of mine! I love how it's just the right amount of dark, it has so many amazing plot twists, it's super sexy, amazing action moments and the perfect amount of romance. IT. IS. PERFECTION!! And Smith and Kate definitely followed suite to Gabby and JD!
I really loved Smith in the previous books, but I had no idea I would love him this much! He's broody, witty and oddly compassionate. I loved how much he cared about Kate even though he "shouldn't." He equally cared for everyone around him, and it was so sweet! Then pair him with Kate and there's this fire we get to see that we didn't before. Then we have Kate, who is essentially trying to find herself. But, instead, she finds Smith and this amazing city that needs her. I loved this so much. I love how she had a purpose, but ended up becoming an integral part of Charleston.
Eva added some really perfect elements, which was all the better with these plot twists. The added element of faith and what goes behind the scenes in churches was pure genius! I love when topics of today translate into books. It's so prevalent and not used much. Father Jesse was a truly special character, for so many reasons, and none of the ones you think going into this novel. In fact, most of what you might think when you start reading this takes a complete turn. IT WAS EPIC THAT WAY!!!
As usual, I loved seeing characters from past books. Getting to see JD and his family, his specially relationship with his daughter, and the rest of Smith's crew. It's always special to me to continue to see people grow and evolve. We even get to meet some of Smiths family, and they were EVERYTHING I'd hoped for! Add in Kate's best friend, and we had a pretty amazing secondary character line-up.
I cannot really talk much more about the book without giving too much away, just please go read it!! It has everything you would want in a book!
Bound was the very much anticipated follow-up novel from author Eva Charles’ Depraved duet which released last year. Smith Sinclair and Kate McKenna were introduced in that duet and it appears that the author had some reader demand for their story. I didn’t actually go in blind, but I also didn’t know what to expect. Whatever I was going to get, I knew I wanted it.
It took me a little while to really start enjoying these characters. It is a long book and there was quite a bit of ground work laid down in the beginning. I don’t feel one scene should have been cut out though. Every page gave us insight and kept the story moving forward. Smith and Kate turned out to be quite delicious together and even though they had a mutual attraction to each other from the very beginning, they took their time warming up to each other. In the end, the story line did not disappoint. The story actually turned shocking at one point and then it exploded with a capital X.
I thoroughly enjoyed the relationship build up for these characters and loved how they seemed to melt into domestic bliss. Their chemistry was palpable and the sexy banter rocked my world. Images of Smith and saddles filled my dreams for days afterward. You are assured to have some very steamy scenes featuring this amazing man.
Once things got shocking and the story twists began, I read a little faster and enjoyed the characters a whole lot more. At times I was very frustrated with Smith’s rash decisions and really wanted Kate to lash out at him. Turns out, Kate doesn’t have a mean bone in her body and I felt so much sympathy for the circumstances she was having to live through.
Bound was an intense read and I loved every minute. I am now excited to hear all about Delilah.
Whew, talk about a plot twist! I've read Eva's stories many times and loved them all (although I somehow missed the earlier duet from this series! A problem I am remedying immediately!) Ms. Charles does a masterful job of building highly complex characters and weaving their stories together in such a way you cannot think of one without the other.
Smith was...sigh, an amazing character. He's everything you want in an alpha male while still being all the things that drive us crazy about alpha males, in real life. He's dictatorial, heavy-handed and sometimes a flat out asshole but he's tough and tender and funny and dear God, is he sexy. I loved what a flawed character he was, each one endearing him more to me. Kate was a little harder sell for me. She was independent and brazen in one minute, then weak, too trusting and allowed herself to be walked over the next. She was a journalist but appeared to have none of the "spidey sense" most journalists seem to have. Most of the book, I felt like the person in a movie theater wanting to yell "don't go in there!" Her family is the absolute worst and I get that most of her insecurities stemmed from them. One her own, I wasn't a big fan but Smith and Kate together...delicious!
As for that plot twist. Whoa! I knew who the bad guy was from the beginning but wow, I was not expecting the depth or twists in the end. My skin was crawling through those chapters and I "might've" turned the lights on in my hotel room to continue reading! (Ok, I did!) These chapters are where Ms. Charles' intense attention to detail really shines.
Awesome book, rooted in some hard truths, with fantastic characters and a plot to keep you reading late into the night (lights on, of course.)
If you were as intrigued as I was about the mysterious Smith Sinclair from The Devil’s Duet, wonder no more. It’s finally time to find out all about this man!
Who wouldn’t be drawn to this man? He’s the epitome of the strong, silent type. He exudes sex appeal and danger but has this unexplainable softness to him that you just can’t put your finger on. He’s that forbidden fruit you know you shouldn’t have, yet you can’t seem to avoid indulging in it anyway. He’s standoffish, not always a nice guy, and fiercely protective over those he’s close to. But though there are several times in this story you might not like him as much, Smith has a subtle charm and vulnerability you won’t be able to discount. Trust me, he’s worth the wait.
You can’t help but feel for Kate the minute you meet her. She’s had it rough in so many aspects and it would be easy for her to give up the fight. But her determination and drive are admirable. I love her tenacity. She has a good heart and a sassy mouth. Smith doesn’t really know what to do with her.
These two bring new meaning to love/hate relationships. Almost every encounter between them is explosive in one way or another. The push and pull between them is apparent from the beginning, and their chemistry is always sizzling hot. These two ignite the pages, but it’s not all about the heat. This twisted tale will keep you enthralled until the last page and definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Wow…such a great story!
Smith Sinclair has better things to do than to try to run off a nosy reporter. He’s head of security for the Wilder’s and his job is to protect them, their family and most importantly, their secrets. He has no idea that this nosy little reporter will turn his world upside down and sideways in such a short time. She’s a challenge he’s not sure he can handle.
Kate McKenna is trying to liver her mother’s life that was taken from her. She enjoys being a journalist, but she wants to do a story that will make the headlines and get her a Pulitzer, not necessarily for herself, but for her mother who sacrificed her life for Kate. Kate has not had an easy life. It seems that trouble follows her and holds on to her no matter what she does.
I loved this story. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting so much more. The song and dance between Smith and Kate is great to read, add in the crazies and the story was beyond awesome. I give this story a 5-star review and whole heartedly recommend it to readers that love suspense, sexy, strong, Alpha men who are taken to their knees by a strong sassy woman, or stories that have twist and turns so crazy that you are looking at the book saying, “What the HECK?!” I loved Kate and wanted to step in and throat punch her family for her. My hat off to Ms. Charles for her writing, each of her books that I read just makes me want more.
Ties That Bind and Release Us
Smith Sinclair, even his name sounds commanding.  And commanding, demanding, and all being is exactly who this man is, inside and out, professionally and privately. But this is what it takes to be the man in charge of so many lives in so very many different worlds.
Smith is head of security for The Wilders.  A job he’s earned and one he takes to heart. When he’s tasked with eliminating a threat to the family and business, he’s taken aback with the source of contention, Kate McKenna.  The luscious redhead is a weak spot.  And Kate is just as affected. Smith assaults her every sense of being. But he’s the connection to answers she needs.  She'll do anything for those answers.
The two battle each other professionally and physically.  When highly unlikely events occur, Smith believes Kate is on to something.
When their privates lives unfurl, Kate is introduced to a part of Smith that both scares and intrigues her.  He frees her, he strengthens her, he’s slowly claiming her.
As unknowns force his hand and he makes a decision to stand by Kate, everything he believed strikes him full on with betrayal, which is unacceptable.  Betrayal that could end long time friendships and potentially put family at risk.
But when Kate appears to be in danger, Smith refuses to shut her out.  Time and old secrets are dangerous enemies.  Two men trying to save her, both dark and dangerous in different ways.  One wants her heart, the other her soul.
The story had some intense moments revolving around troublesome issues.  It makes you step back and think about them.
I enjoyed how Charles kept Sinclair’s character real. He was open, honest, and upfront on the man he was.  There was no sugar coating of the true man.
This story will grip your senses, take you down a dark path, and hopefully gain some perspective and respect  of other worlds.
Wow this was a page-turner by Eva and you had to keep going to see what happened next. So many twists and turns you don't see coming.
Kate is a reporter digging in all the wrong places about a case in Charleston. Smith has been sent to keep an eye on her and make her leave town back to Boston as soon as possible. Instead the opposite happens and he finds himself attracted to her. Kate is a bit apprehensive at times since she sees what his lifestyle (BDSM) is like and isn't sure she's enough or ever will be for him.
Smith starts to get jealous when Father Jesse starts paying too much attention to Kate and giving her extravagant gifts. He warns her to be careful he has a gut feeling something is not right. She just waves it off as Smith being too overprotective. Smith worries Kate's in danger so he gives her security protection with his men. When Kate "betrays his best friend and his wife" he pulls all the security he has for Kate he's so angry at "her betrayal."
I received a copy to do an honest review for Naughty Nightie Book Blog and loved all the twists and turns plus all the hotness and chemistry between Kate and Smith. Smith is my new book boyfriend, every girl deserves a Smith. Once you start you will find it hard to put down I know I did. Although this is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone.
Amount of sex 3.5 / 5
How explicit is the sex scenes 3.5 / 5
Story 5 / 5
Overall: 5 / 5
Bound is the third book in the Devil’s Due series written by author Eva Charles. Bound tells the story of Smith Sinclair, and we were first introduced to his character in the first two books, Depraved and Delivered. I believe you can read Bound as a standalone romance, although I do believe reading them in order will give you the best foundation to understand and appreciate the backstories. Just know that it’s a suggestion.
I’ve been dying to read Smith’s story for what feels like forever. And let me tell you, it was completely worth the wait! Kate McKenna is a reporter from Boston, and she’s chasing a story that brings her to Charleston. Kate meets with Smith, the head of security for JD and Gabriella Wilder, to gain information. But instead, sparks fly! When JD asks Smith to monitor Kate while she’s digging for her story, Smith feels caught between his best friend and the woman he cares for.
Bound is a hot and steamy thriller, and I loved every minute of it! I literally could not put my Kindle down! It’s a definite add to your TBR list!
★ A twisty-dark plot in some places, a satisfying & sizzling romance in others ★
—>>> When Smith meets the nosy journalist Kate McKenna, he is more than attracted to her, but he also knows his loyalties and his duty to protect the Wilder family, even though Kate insists that she is not digging into the family’s matters. When they think that they’ve successfully seen the last of Kate, however, she returns even more determined to make a life there, still intent on following her gut and chasing her story as an ode to her mother’s work. The people she manages to befriend all serve to pull her this way and that, but she remains a person of distrust. The Wilder family and Smith still do not know what to make of this woman, but Smith is definitely harboring some strong feelings for Kate. When someone makes their message clear that she is a target, Smith finds himself going out of his way for her out of protectiveness as well as wanting to show her his private brand of kink and domination. It is not long, though, before the real intent reveals itself moments and ways no one was expecting. A read which delivers a twisty-dark plot in some places, a satisfying and sizzling romance in others.
Now I'm torn between JD and Smith haha. How hot are this authors characteers.
A priest and a soldier
A demon and a knight
How can you not wanna read this story from a blurb like that. I was in from the very start of Smith & Kate's story. Bare in mind this is a long book with a slow burn but definitley worth the wait if you keep reading.
My heart broke for Kate so many times. How can someone have so much negativity thrown at them and keep going?? She did and it landed her right in Smith's lap. She is tenacious in what she wants and proves she will do just about anything to get it.
Smith has such a commanding personality it was no surprise that he had Kate at this mercy from early on.
The banter and chemisty between these 2 strong willed characters kept me flipping the pages as fast as I could. Throw in the mysterious Father Creighton and by the half way point I was screaming for answers
Told in dual POV these characters will take you on a journey of intrigue, suspicion and danger, with some seriously hot sex thrown in, all the way to the twisted end that you will not see coming.
I am loving this series so far and can't wait to see what comes next.
Eva Charles is brilliant at writing stories with amazing characters that frustrate me to no end, while catapulting me to my happy place of dropping f-bombs because of insane twists, and Bound is absolutely NO EXCEPTION! Now, while it's the 3rd book in The Devil's Due series, it can be read as a standalone, but I really encourage everyone to read the previous books as well for fun! I'm not inclined to give very many details at all, since it's on the dark(ish) romantic suspense side. And while the romantic side of it was more of a slow burn, everything else was super exciting & fast paced. Two men, one a Priest, Father Creighton, and Smith Sinclair. Smith was hot, and I don't want to say a Priest is hot (even in my books) so you can be the judge. Kate is our leading female, and she has quite the past, with these two dangerous men drawn to her. Now, I have to admit that besides the twists, there were some kinky twists as well, but I'll NEVER tell what they were! You'll have to hit that one click button to find out the real scoop of the story to experience the goodness rather than my cryptic description! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
