Imagine the holiday season is approaching and your family is struggling to pay rent, utilities, and buy groceries. On top of that, December brings the pressure to give your children gifts for the December holidays and provide traditional celebratory food. This is the reality for many families living in Montgomery County.
The Holiday Giving Project (HGP) of Montgomery County, Maryland, has provided holiday food and December holiday assistance to low-income households for over 30 years. A network of social workers, school counselors, and other human service professional refer families and individuals in need of holiday assistance. Local non-profit agencies, faith-based organizations, service organizations, government agencies, as well as, local neighborhood coordinators and families, come together each year to meet the need.
In conjunction with Faith Connections, we are working to connect HGP families in the greater Damascus-Clarksburg area who need help with the Holidays with sponsors. Last year we were able to serve over 400 families adopted by churches, businesses, organizations and individual families here in our community.
Here's how you can sponsor a family through The Holiday Giving Project:
1. Fill out the form below and receive information for a family in the Clarksburg/Damascus area.
2. Our liaisons will help you contact the family to collect gift wishes for the children.
3. Purchase/gather the gifts or gift cards, provide food or a food gift card, and deliver or mail items to the family before December 19th.
We ask sponsors to provide 2 gifts per child with an estimated total value of $50 for BOTH gifts, and food/food gift card in the amount of $20-30 per person.
If you are able to support families for the Thanksgiving holiday as well, please let us know below (before Nov. 15th).
Thank you again for helping to care for and provide for these families.
