Big Smoke Writing Factory takes a bow after 14 years of creative writing workshops

Both Nicole and Claire have launched brand new writing courses & workshops which they are delighted to share with you.

Some news…

After providing creative writing workshops in Dublin city centre, around Ireland, and online, for over 14 years, Big Smoke is closing its doors. We've encountered so many brilliant writers over the years, from people taking their first tentative steps into getting words down on the page, to writers developing their craft and beginning to publish, produce, or perform their work. It's been a privilege to work with you and we've been deeply inspired by the wonderful stories you've created.

We're so grateful to have played a part in Dublin’s literary scene over the past decade and a half, and hope to continue doing so in different ways.

Nicole Rourke will be focusing on her own writing and theatre practice - including touring her acclaimed one-woman show, Baggage - as well as delivering creativity workshops.

Claire Hennessy will be focusing on her own writing - including a short story collection scheduled for 2025 - as well as delivering fiction workshops.

We wish all of our past workshop participants the very best of luck with their own writing and own creative practice. (Given that Dublin is a village, we’ll run into some of you, we’re sure!)

Warmest wishes,

Nicole & Claire

P.S. We'll keep you posted on what each of us has coming up for another few months via our newsletter. We know many of you are eager to book in for 2024 courses - Nicole will be delivering a 4-week Away With Words: The Art of Storytelling workshop (for both beginners and those with some experience) at the Carmelite Centre, Wednesday evenings in February 21st - March 13th. Claire will be working online for the next while, with online workshops in flash fiction and a few other things: full details and booking info here.
