Augusta University’s Department of English and World Languages has partnered with the Department of Music to present the local community with the World Languages Speaker Series.

This online event series is sponsored through a grant from Georgia Humanities, a nonprofit organization, to promote language learning on Augusta University’s campuses and in the surrounding community.

This series promotes and highlights the academic work being done in languages other than English, including Spanish, French and Chinese. Isaac Veysey-White, speaker at the Spanish Series, focuses his academic research on contemporary Spanish peninsular literature and comics.

“Students who speak one of the languages highlighted get to see themselves reflected in our campus programming and see that language learning involves more than vocabulary and grammar tests,” said Seretha Williams, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of English and World Languages.

Students who wish to learn about languages outside of English are encouraged to attend the upcoming virtual events:

  • 7 p.m. Nov. 8: Spanish Speaker Series featuring Isaac Veysey-White, who will discuss the memory, solidarity, collective action and social trauma found in 20th- and 21st-century Spanish literature and comics.
  • 7 p.m. Nov. 15: French Speaker Series “Afro-pean Soul: A conversation with Les Nubians.” Hélène and Célia Faussart, a Grammy-nominated sister duo, will engage in a Q&A with AU faculty.
