ARIELLE COLE

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, dance has been an integral part of my life and has taken me around the country and world. At age nine, I started seriously training in Ballet at San Jose Ballet Academy while continuing my Jazz and Tap education at Jensen's Performing Arts. In high school, I was part of the nationally award winning dance team, the Lincoln Convertibles as well as a member of the Fancy Dancers. I received my BFA in Dance from University at Buffalo and most recently my MFA in Dance and Masters of Management from Mills College. Some highlights of my career has been dancing in Israel in the MASA Dance Journey program with Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, dancing with Keshet Dance Company in Albuquerque, NM, and PERSpectives Dance Company in Los Gatos, CA, as well as Artistic Director of Montage Contemporary Company.

My passions within dance include teaching and choreography. At the age of five I started choreographing dance shows in my room and would mount full stage productions using my loft bed as a stage. I started seriously choreographing around the age of eleven, entering my own solos into local dance competitions. I knew from a young age I wanted to have my own professional dance company. In 2018 that dream became a reality when I started ArcTangent Dance. In 2019, ArcTangent Dance was part of the Resident Artist Workshop (RAW) at SAFEhouse for the Performing Arts in San Francisco, CA, and was featured in the SEED Festival hosted by Li Chiao-Ping Dance.

I have been a lifelong lover of academia and education. Teaching dance has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I love teaching dance to adults of all levels and highly enjoy coaching preprofessional students. My day is truly brightened when I see that same spark of joy I feel in my own heart reflected  in my students' eyes. Sharing my feedback and knowledge at dance competitions as an adjudicator with dancers from around the country has become one of the more rewarding aspects as an educator.
